Jazz Brunch: Keiko Matsui and Euge Groove — Friday, 31 August (Brunch served 10 am - 11 am)

Keiko Matsui is an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and humanitarian whose music speaks to the hearts and souls of fans around the world. Her music transcends borders and builds bridges with lush harmonies and global rhythms that create timeless musical anthems. "Music creates a oneness," says the striking, petite powerhouse who has worked alongside everyone from Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder to Hugh Masekela, Bob James, Bruce Springsteen and Quincy Jones. Matsui took her first piano lesson at five and she made her US recording debut in 1987 with “A Drop of Water.” She is featured in the PBS-TV special, “Keiko Matsui: Light Above The Trees,” which earned a National Smooth Jazz Award for Best Long-Form Video Achievement, and Matsui was honored with Best Female Artist in 2000 and 2001. “When I hear of a cause that resonates with me that I can dedicate my music to, then I am always willing. It is my way to show gratitude and give back,” states Keiko.

At WCNA 37, Matsui will team up with Euge Groove—a pseudonym for saxophone journeyman Steve Grove. After beginning to play piano in the second grade, he turned to the saxophone at around nine or ten. His teacher gave him a classical education on the instrument, which he continued at the University of Miami's School of Music, where he became interested in jazz. Since his debut album, “Euge Groove” with Warner Bros in 2000, Euge Groove has released another nine albums. Over the years he has worked with the likes of Joe Cocker, Eurythmics, the Gap Band, Huey Lewis & the News, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, Eros Ramazotti, and Richard Marx. We are looking forward to an extraordinary WCNA 37 Jazz Brunch with this unique and talented pair.
