Entertainment

We are so excited to announce some of our special event performers. There will be more to come as we get closer to the convention—watch this space for new performers and events!

The day before the convention officially opens, onsite registration and registration pickup will be available. And we have events for you early birds! We have tickets for a barnburning baseball game Wednesday evening – the Washington Nationals play the New York Yankees! Seats are super limited. Sign up early for seats to this sellout game! Please note: not all seats are in the same section, and you must organize your own transportation to the ballgame.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, city tours will be available. (Tour links coming soon!).

Once the convention kicks off, there will be concerts, comedy, and more! Coffeehouse entertainment is included with your registration; special event tickets are available when registration opens. We will email you when we add new performances to the schedule.

All seating for ticketed events is arranged by date of registration. Register early for best seats, or buy a ten-seat table in order to sit with your friends. Even if you add events later in your convention planning, your initial registration date will determine your seating location.

Event tickets are non-refundable after 1 June. We are unable to issue a refund after that date because WCNA will have already incurred the cost of that seat.

The Blues Brunch features one of the hottest blues performers this year. Samantha Fish https://samanthafish.com/ will return from her European tour to join us in DC. Driving guitar and killer tunes are bringing down the house worldwide. We won’t miss this one—make sure to get your tickets early!

Our Jazz Brunch performers are father-daughter duo Kim and Kayla Waters http://www.kimwaters.net/www.iamkaylawaters.com . Kim Waters has been a saxophone icon for a generation; Kayla is an award-winning keyboard player and vocalist. Together they have a sound that is polished and dynamic, uplifting and smart.

Hold onto your seats, Earthquake https://therealearthquake.com/will have us shaking at the comedy show. A DC native now living in LA, Quake has been featured on Netflix, HBO, BET, and Sirius. He’s always a good show, and he’ll keep us laughing long after the curtain goes down.

Our Coffeehouse entertainment will feature award-winning vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter Curtis Salgado https://curtissalgado.com/.The man NPR calls “an icon” with “a huge voice” is revered worldwide for his ability to wring every ounce of soul out of every song he performs.

In 1977, John Belushi caught a typically ferocious Salgado performance. Belushi introduced himself during a break, and a fast friendship grew. Salgado played old records for Belushi, teaching him about blues and R&B. Belushi used his new awareness to portray “Joliet” Jake Blues inThe Blues Brothers, first as a skit on Saturday Night Live, then a best-selling record album (which was dedicated to Curtis) and finally in the movie (Cab Calloway’s character in the film was named Curtis as an homage).

This is a personal invitation from Curtis Salgado to his coffee house performance at WCNA 38.

Back in Black https://backinblack.info/tribute band is an incredible, exciting, high-energy reproduction of a concert performance of AC/DC. So authentic, the lead singer auditioned for the real AC/DC in March 2016! They include tribute performances of both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. For 20 years, Back in Black has been the next best thing to the real AC/DC.

One of DC’s own Go-Go bands will close the coffeehouse entertainment Saturday night. Go-Go originated in Washington, and it is a DC institution. It was the bridge between funk and hip hop back in the day, and the go-ahead beats still keep crowds on their feet! Watch this space for more details.

We look forward to announcing a Saturday night concert. Again, we will email all registrants and members signed up for NAWS email lists when we know more. Remember, your preregistration date will determine seating; you can add event tickets after you register. So stand by, but don’t wait!
